Statistics Calculator
Find the mean, median, mode, range, quartiles and standard deviation of a data set, with each calculation shown. Try “standard deviation of 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42”.
Try an example:
How the Statistics Calculator works
- Sort the data and count n.
- Find the mean and each deviation from it, then square them.
- Divide the sum of squares by n (population) or n − 1 (sample) and take the root.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between population and sample standard deviation?
Population uses n in the denominator. Sample uses n − 1 to correct for estimating the mean from the same data.
How do I find the median?
Sort the data. It is the middle value, or the mean of the two middle values if n is even.
